Extra - articular distal radius non - comminuted fractures percutaneous pinning

چکیده
Fractures of the distal radius constitute about 15 % of all fractures treated in emergency department. Closed reduction and cast immobilization has been the mainstay of treatment of these fractures, but invariably it results in malunion, poor functional and cosmetic outcome. This study was conducted to examine the functional outcome of non comminuted extra-articular distal end radius fractures treated with closed reduction and percutaneous K-wire fixation with immobilization and early physiotherapy. This is a prospective study of hundred consecutive patients with extra-articular distal radius fracture.Accurate reduction of the fracture is the first step in the treatment of distal radial fractures.Percutaneous pinning is a simple and inexpensive procedure. Various techniques of percutaneous pinning are available. Percutaneous pinning and immobilization of the fracture with wristimmobilized for 3 weeks and early physiotherapy is a simple inexpensive procedure for extra-articular noncomminuted distal radius fractures. It provides anatomic fracture reduction and fixation and allows earlier rehabilitation without jeopardizing the fracture alignment.

Unstable extra-articular fractures of the distal radius: a prospective, randomised study of immobilisation in a cast versus supplementary percutaneous pinning.
We performed a prospective, randomised study on 57 patients older than 60 years of age with unstable, extra-articular fractures of the distal radius to compare the outcome of immobilisation in a cast alone with that using supplementary, percutaneous pinning. Patients treated by percutaneous wires had a statistically significant improvement in dorsal angulation (mean 7 degrees), radial length (m...
متن کاملPercutaneous pinning versus pin-in-plaster for treatment of distal radius fractures
Background: Distal radius fractures constitute 17% of all fractures and 75% of forearm fractures in adults. Due to the vital role of the hands in a wide range of daily tasks, quick recovery and fewer complications for the patients are important. The purpose of this study was to compare the two common treatments of distal radius fractures namely, percutaneous pinning and pin-in-plaster. Methods...
متن کاملEfficacy of different fixation devices in maintaining an initial reduction for surgically managed distal radius fractures.
BACKGROUND Fracture of the distal radius is a common injury. Many treatment options exist for the surgical management of extra-articular and intra-articular distal radius fractures. The best method of treatment for these fractures remains controversial. We sought to examine radiographic outcomes of patients treated with non-spanning external fixator (NSEF), open reduction and internal fixation ...
متن کاملDistal radius fractures: treatment using the Epibloc system.
The Epibloc system of percutaneous endomedullary internal fixation is best indicated for AO type A2-3 extra-articular fractures of the distal radius and AO type C1 slightly comminuted articular fractures. This system includes pins that can be inserted into the medullary canal and advanced without breaking through the second cortex. This fixation is stabilised by an external plate and rendered d...
متن کاملRadiographic Outcomes of Percutaneous Pinning for Displaced Extra-Articular Fractures of the Distal Radius: A Time Course Study
INTRODUCTION Although not all malunited distal radius fractures are symptomatic, the goal of treatment for displaced extra-articular fractures of the distal radius should be to restore and to maintain the radial geometry until bone healing. However, the time course change after surgery for these fractures is unclear. METHODS We, therefore, performed a retrospective cohort study on patients wh...
